history

The tuberose gets it’s name from its tuberous nature. While it grows in Hawai‘i, it’s a member of the amaryllis family, native to Mexico. This flower is usually abundant throughout the year.

Straight Stringing Method:
kui pololei

This is the most common method of lei making. The flowers are pierced lengthwise, through the center, using a long steel needle. The flowers are held together by a single string.

ancient materials

Early Hawaiians didn’t have steel needles, so they used a piece of the smooth round midrib of the coconut leaf or stems of flowers from native grasses. For string, they used fibers from the native olona shrub or the hala tree.

If you want a lei that smells good, this is the one! We kept the lei for a few days in our room and it still smelt good. We were very very happy with the tuberose leis.

The only reason why I’m giving this review 4 stars is because it didn’t last forever 😛 I would order this again!

I ordered a few leis for my family. I chose this one for the women. I’m glad I did because the scent was perfect and feminine. However, I wish I ordered it for myself too lol
